Candriam boosts partnership with world greenest football club
Belgian asset manager Candriam has extended its parternship with the Britisth League 2 professional football squad Forest Green Rovers, based in Gloucestershire. The new three-year deal agreed includes the establishment of a Candriam kids fund, through which Forest Green Rovers will donate at least £10,000 per season to help disadvantaged children and young people.
Forest Green Rovers had been the world first football club to be granted a carbon neutral certification by the United Nations in 2018 and its chairman Dale Vince is acting for the organisation's sports for climate action initiative. The team's stadium is powered by 100% green energy generated by renewable sources while the pitch is organic and sustainable football pitch. Furthermore, all food provided to players, staff and fans is vegan.
“Football has a universal dimension and a very strong impact on all generations, especially young people. Our partnership is an excellent platform to support social inclusion and environmental awareness both as organisations and across our industries,” commented Naïm Abou-Jaoudé, CEO at Candriam and chairman of New York Life Investments International.
Forest Green Rovers' chairman stated: “There’s no shortage of money in the world – but most of it gets invested in projects that are driving the world’s problems, not solving them. We need to point the financial markets in another direction - they have a vital role in the fight against climate change. The best way to do this is in partnership.”
Candriam is involved in Belgian football as well through sponsorships with RSC Anderlecht and FC Bruges football clubs.
