AkademikerPension has decided to exclude China from its investment universe

Danish pension fund for the local academic sector AkademikerPension has decided to dump DKK 400m (€53.7m) worth of Chinese equities and government bonds. Jens Munch Holst, CEO of AkademikerPension, said that the pension scheme had monitored China for a long time but that the systematic human rights violations in the country led AkademikerPension to leave aside Chinese investments.  "Our motto is that return and responsibility must go hand in hand, and when we talk about responsibility, it is difficult to argue that we should keep China in our portfolio," added Holst. The pension company had already excluded 35 other countries from its investment universe, mostly from Africa and Asia and including Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Iran.
