Sustainable bond issuance sets new high in Q3’20, up 30% qoq
According to a Moody’s report, sustainable bond issuance could reach around $425bn for the full year 2020, including $250bn of green bonds, $100bn of social bonds and $75 of sustainability bonds.
During the third quarter of 2020, some $127.3bn were issued in sustainable bonds, suggesting a 30% increase over the previous record set the previous quarter and forming 6.1% of all debt issued over the period. Green bond issuance soared 31% quarter-on-quarter to $72.3bn, Moody’s reported, while record issuance of both social and sustainability bonds were stressed for the second consecutive quarter, at $28.1bn and $26.9bn respectively.
As for sovereign sustainable bond issuances, they stood at $33.1bn for the first nine months of the year [out of $288.2bn sustainable debt issued over the period, ed.], up from $21.8bn for the full year 2019.
