Schroders appoints new global real estate boss
British asset management firm Schroders has named Sophie van Oosterom as global head of real estate effective January 2021. In this role, she will to oversee the firm's direct and indirect real estate portfolio (€19.2bn AuM as of end December 2019). She will report to Georg Wunderlin, global head of real assets at Schroders, and succeds Duncan Owen, who will step down from the role on 31 December 2020. Owen will continue to act as an adviser to Schroders Real Estate and will be sitting on the board of Schroders' Asian new entity Schroders Pamfleet.
van Oosterom joins from CBRE Global Investors where she served as chief executive officer and chief investment officer for the Europe, Middle-East and Africa region. She was also a member of CBRE's global executive and investment committees while chairing the ones for Europe. Prior to that, she was a managing director and head of Europe for private equity asset management at Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners (now Silverpeak Real Estate Partners).
