The French Treasury and France’s permanent representative to the European Union have obtained the option of postponing by one year the obligation provided under the Transparency Directive, to draw up annual financial statements in the European Single Electronic Format (ESEF) for all issuers whose bonds are traded on European regulated markets. This proposal is subject to confirmation by the European Council and the European Parliament. The amendment to the Transparency Directive is due to be published in the Official Journal of the European Union early next year. 2020 was expected to be the first year for which accounts would be published in ESEF.
